Around the World In 46 Days: Part 1 (The USA)

23.7.14

Well, we're back! Hello again Vladivostok!

I had a really fun time circumnavigating the world this summer, and I only took 46 days! :)

The first leg of the journey was Vlad-Tokyo-Chicago-Iowa-Kansas City-Iowa-Lake of the Ozarks, MO-Tennessee-Iowa. This leg was all about family and I had a good time at home and traveling around the Midwest seeing them!

My travels started in Kansas City for a good friend's graduation party at the Boulevard Brewing Company and to visit my uncle and aunt and see their gorgeous new house.

A week later my mom, dad, sister, brother-in-law, nephew and Pip went to our house at the Lake of the Ozarks to relax and see my uncle and great aunt and uncle.

While we were there I took a two-hour detour to Mansfield, MO to visit the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home and Museum, which was really cool. I saw so many of the important family items that she mentions in her books, which if you haven't ever read (or read recently) you should do so immediately. Here is a link to get you started.
Awesome!

From the Lake my mom, nephew, Pip and I took off for Nashville, TN to visit my littlest brother, his wife and puppy, Aris, and to help them move to their new apartment. Here is my best contribution to the process:
The bookshelves are made out of drawers from an old bureau. Pretty cool.
We also got to see a bit of Nashville, including the Vanderbilt Campus (both Timothy and his wife are graduate students at Vandy) the TN State Capitol and the Acroplois:

We made it back to Iowa just in time to celebrate the Fourth of July, take some family photos and visit the traveling "Wall that Heals", a traveling scale model of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Monument that was in Osky over the holiday weekend.

And then it was back on a plane (no first class this time, unfortunately) and off to meet Chris in London...which I will tell you about at a later time! :)

It's good to be back, but awfully lonely without Pip in the house...le sigh.
