A Lack of Internet

2.28.15
Kristen says...

We're existing without Internet currently (I'm using the rather expensive pas-as-you-go 3G on my phone to post this) so I'm not doing nearly enough blogging...

Anyway, here is a quick note to say we are still here and having a lovely time!

Pip made it out of quarantine and is enjoying all the fun things Canberra has to offer--as are we!

More soon!

More from Sydney...Wildlife and Culture

13.2.15

Happy Friday the 13th! Hopefully bad luck leaves you alone today!

We are having such a lovely time here in Sydney! The weather has been amazing, and so have the sights!

Yesterday we traveled to suburbia to have our first up close and personal experiences with some uniquely Australian animals...
Check this off Chris' bucket list! Cuddling with a koala!
Petting a wombat
My buddy the wallaby
Chris and this kangaroo really bonded

Today we had a semi-close encounter with an Australian animal of a different kind at Manly beach...yikes!
I was in the water when the shark siren went off...eek!!!

We have also been taking part in some cultural events, including an early morning tour of the Sydney Opera House

We are having such a great time!

Kristen

G'day from Down Under!!

After a (surprisingly palatable) 15 hour flight (which included HOURS-long stretches with the "fasten-your-seatbelt/you-cannot-get-up/there-might-be-turbulence-sometime/oh-wait-just-kidding-about-that-turbulence/hope-you-didn't-wet-your-pants" time) we have arrived in Sydney and have already ventured forth to soak up some of the lovely summer sun!

We started off wandering down to Sydney Harbor:
Helloooo, Sydney Opera House!!
That is a large cruise ship!
Then we wandered up toward the Sydney Observatory
And enjoyed the view of the back aide of the bridge
We have also seen a small amount of wildlife...mostly birds
No scary snakes or spiders yet (no kangaroos, either!) but this statue celebrating pioneer women in Australia is covered in spider webs...so I know they're here, somewhere!!

More soon...after we have a nap!

Catching Up before Canberra

2.7.14
Kristen says...

We're just days (DAYS!!!) from heading to Canberra, so I thought I'd better udpate the blog with what we've been doing since we left Vlad...

So let's see, on our way back to the States from Vlad we stopped over in Tokyo, Japan for a few days. We really enjoyed walking around the city and eating local foods (like green tea ice cream, YUM!) enjoyed our amazing hotel and Chris got to celebrate his birthday in the Happiest Place on earth...Tokyo Disneyland!

After Tokyo we flew home, just in time to spend Christmas and New Years with our family

We had a really nice month at home (full of sick people, unfortunately)

But eventually we had to say goodbye and head to DC...

Luckily my "baby" brother and his wife were able to fly out and spend a couple days with us!! We went to the zoo, the Washington Monument, the Library of Congress, the Capitol, and saw lots of other fun DC sights (including a skink, an Australian reptile!)!

Yesterday we dropped Pip off so he could start heading for Australia...he has 10 days of quarantine ahead of him, so he gets a head start on us...sniff!!!

Luckily I had an AMAZING experience last night to distract me from my sadness...Jamie Cullum is one of my favorite artists EVER and I have been wanting to see him live since I first heard of him in 2004...amazingly enough, he was scheduled to play DC last night and we scored tickets!!!!!

It was really, really great!!!

The concert was at the Lincoln Theater which is right next door to Ben's Chili Bowl, so we had to stop by for a chili dog after the show...when in DC, right?!

So, I think that brings us up to today...with just days left in the States, we are making final plans, purchases, and packing decisions...

Next post from Canberra!
